GEDI wins Olympiad "Youth for Peace" in Belarus

Team formed by members of the UFMG Law School International Law Society (GEDI) is awarded the 1st Place in the Olympiad "Youth for Peace" Juridical Competition, 2008 edition, held between May 19 and 23 in Minsk, Belarus. Diego Valadares Vasconcelos Neto, Monique Salerno Rocha Lisboa and Ana Luisa Calixto Rodrigues were the only Latin Americans competing amongst 20 finalist teams in the Competitions third edition.

During the Competition, participants faced mock situations very similar to real armed conflict situations. Students from several countries competed in English and Russian. The UFMG were trained by Rodrigo Pithon who was a member of the only Brazilian Team to the Concours Pictet 2007 edition. The competition is organized by the International Institute of Labor and Social Relations.

This is the second international award won by the team in less than one month. The students won the 20th Jean-Pictet Competition of International Humanitarian Law, held in Schwarzenburg, Switzerland, between April 19 and 26.
